State may gain large tract of gas area land
Harrisburg February 3. A 7d acre tract high in the Clinton county gas region may pass to the state for lack of an owner. The find sparked interest as drillers hit a massive Leidy field well described as the biggest in the world. Eugene Seifert said the gusher could produce 100 to 150 million cubic feet daily. The well, northeast of Lock Haven, was in a parcel owned by Harry Finnetrock of Tamarack. The land had long been ignored since Penn’s era, until a local investigator uncovered its location amid old records at the county courthouse. The state Forestry and Waters department moved to claim ownership, while Schuman can contest the claim. If seized, the state plans to use the land for forestry and royalty bids. The Clinton Potter region already holds state holdings to limit drilling.

Roll Back of Steel and Scrap Prices Announced
Washington reports the Office of Price Stabilization rolled back the wire of steel and scrap iron. OPS estimates a rollback of 100 dollars per gross ton on standard grades with larger rollbacks up to 60 dollars on special grades. Scrap makes up about half of total weight in steel inputs and the action is not expected to affect steel prices now, but should help prevent future price increases.
