Woodland Tax Hike No Boon To Taxpayers

Woodland tax hike will raise revenue for government budgets but may not ease taxpayer burdens. Timberland values doubled per Chief Assessor Fred W Lenner after a county study directed by Warren County Commissioners. Crippen said reassessment will change real property values by about 10 in the year 1962, yet taxes may still rise due to other costs. No county program exists to reflect interior improvements, and depreciation is not recorded under the current system. The timberland value change is only part of the reassessment, with overall property assessments increasing while taxpayers feel little relief. Also noted, Elk Township officials complained about timberland value changes and ongoing high taxes.
