Meat Spoilage on Lake Erie Bank Sparks City Stink
In Erie on February 1 a newspaper found at least 500 pounds of choice meats rotting along the Lake Erie bank at the foot of Chautauqua Boulevard in a cared-for residential area. Residents reported the stench during warmer weather and noted no trucks had delivered meat in days. The spoiled cargo included beef, lamb chops, sausages and cold cuts, some still in packages. It is believed a meat market operator kept meat unsold in shops long enough to spoil.
