Warren pensioner and Civil War veteran passes away
Calvin Day of Warren County, the last surviving Civil War veteran from the area, celebrated his birthday yesterday. A Centerville, Crawford County native, he served with Company 1 of the 50th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry the Bucktails and later with Battery D of the Pennsylvania Light Artillery. He fought at Gettysburg and other major battles, was discharged after two years of service, and worked in lumbering across Michigan Wisconsin and Mingesoa for over six decades. His death leaves Warren County with no remaining “Boys in Blue.”
