Harrisburg conference eyed to cut county crime costs
District Attorney Mortimer B. Graham travels to Harriburg for a conference with Department of Welfare officials to seek cuts in crime cost. He plans urging abolition of a rule forcing the county to pay all costs for prisoners who escape from state institutions. The county recently faced a 420,000 bill for prisoners who fled Rockview penitentiary. Graham also directed staff to subpoena only enough witnesses to support prosecutions to avoid duplication. Elias county’s crime prosecution cost last year reached 206,000.
