A First Hand Glimpse of Shanghai by Eleanor Clarage
Eleanor Clarage writes from Shanghai, describing the expatriate American community in the international concession. The city shows a sharp contrast between old China on the Bund and modern offices across the river, with clubs, shops, and social life orderly before the Sino-Japanese crisis. Now, with American destroyers in the harbor and Japanese troops patrolling, Shanghai wears a somber, war-tinged air as residents face an uncertain future.
