Two Men Killed in Icy Route 6 Collisions Near Corry

Two men died and several people were injured in icy crashes yesterday afternoon near Corry. State police cited skidding as the cause for both crashes on Route 6 in the Corry area. Stanley F. Collin of Stoneham, Warren County, died at Union City Hospital. Francis G. Jaquith, 33, of Corry, died at Corry Memorial Hospital. The first crash occurred at 3:45 p.m. at Route 6 and the Corry Drive-In Theatre intersection. the second at 4:45 p.m. on Route 6 heading west. Wounded include Joyce Collin, 51, at Corry Memorial Hospital then Hamot in Erie in fair condition. Richard Dyke, 46, Russell, and Dorothy Dyke, 41, both in satisfactory condition at Hamot. Terry Dyke, 14, also in satisfactory condition at Union City Hospital. Laverne Couse, 22, Youngsville, and Jason Couse, 14 months, both in satisfactory condition at Corry Memorial. Investigators seek witnesses.

Area Fire Chief’s Son Dies in Russell House Fire

Keith Michael, 6 or 7, the son of Darrell Michael, chief of the Russell volunteer fire department, perished when a early morning blaze engulfed the second floor of a Russell home near Warren. Two other children were hospitalized with smoke effects, while both parents were unharmed. Fire crews from Lander, Scandia, and North Warren assisted as conditions and cause are investigated by the state fire marshal.

Driver Forced To Choose 1 Of 2 Cars

A two car collision near West Main and Lemon streets left Mary R. Rossey and Lawrence Purpura as drivers. Purpura reportedly left his parked truck protruding into the intersection with no warning devices. Rossey, forced to strike either the parked truck or oncoming car, hit the truck. Damages were about $50 to Rossey’s car and $250 to Purpura’s truck.

Kidney Couple To Marry In Portland Ward Romance

Mike Leite and Robin Perry, both kidney dialysis patients at Good Samaritan Hospital, announced their engagement and plan to wed in September. They met in the dialysis ward, bonded over shared treatment schedules, and say mutual understanding of illness strengthens their relationship.

Two Teens Robbery Suspects Overwhelmed by Miami Vigilantes

In Miami two teens who grabbed a woman’s purse were chased by an impromptu mob of about 80 residents and police say they were held down with a chain and sat on. Johnny Battle, 19, and a 14 year old were captured after the crowd converged on a dead end street. Battle faces robbery charges while the juvenile was released to his parents.
