Vast Thai fuel theft eyed by GAO probe
The GAO confirmed charges by John McGee that hundreds of tank trucks’ contents vanished and that large scale thefts at Thai service stations supplying U.S. military vehicles went unnoticed for months. In 1967, 52 percent of gasoline and 40 percent of diesel shipped to bases were stolen. The report faulted the 9th Logistics Command and Navy and Army offices for lax verification, noting that 590,500 gallons were estimated stolen in ten months and that many delivery receipts were not checked.
