Rent or Buy Question Stalls Erie County Officials

Erie County commissioners continued debate over buying or renting two types of calculating machines for the assessment bureau. The more costly IBM equipment, favored by Chief Assessor Martin Gregor and others, could be purchased next year to aid the revision effort, with TBM equipment backed by rent for ten years totaling 89,600. Addressograph offered a lease option with annual fees and a final sale price. Proponents say TBM performs more work with fewer operators, while rental would ease 1956 budget impact. Representatives from both firms may be invited before a final decision.
