Trojans Favored Over Tulane in New Year Classic
Ay George H Beale United Press Staff Correspondent Pasadena Dec 31 Southern California entered the New Year’s Day showdown as overwhelming favorite over undefeated Tulane in the annual intersectional clash. Bookmakers posted odds of 10 to 1 and 20 to 1 even money on the Trojans, reflecting immense home-state backing and Tulane’s nation-wide regard as a great team. Coach Howard Jones cautioned his club that Tulane has lost only one game in three years and is praised nationally, tempering the surge of enthusiasm ahead of the game.
