Conduit Sale Likely Amid City Budget Talks
A plan to sell the city owned conduit faced strong support from a wireman majority as officials weigh revenue to raise pay for city workers. Mayor Arthur Gardner urged thorough review, noting Pennsylvanian Electric Co. must take weeks, while Cannavino framed the sale as a way to cut millage and fund raises before end 1956. Assistant City Solicitor Maurer Coughlin suggested reducing millage for 1967 rather than pursuing the bond. Firemen's delegation pressed for a raise, but no tax sources beyond deed and mercantile were approved.
