Quiet presidential elections and the electoral college
The article discusses how the real election lies in the meeting of electors rather than the public vote. It references past disputed results in 1888 and 1876 and notes a failed plan to switch electors. Thomas J. Curran warns that such a defective system may be ended, questioning if his prediction of the electors’ last meeting proves true.

Postwar Commission Reports Drop Of 5 Million Acres From Pa Farms
Harrisburg dec 29 the State Postwar Planning Commission reports a decline of nearly 5 million farm acres and a drop in farm numbers from 224000 to 169000 between 1900 and 1940. Despite this, farm production rose about 60 percent due to efficiency and improvements in farming methods. The report suggests idle land could be repurposed for forestry recreation and fish and game while urging soil conservation and possible state land purchases for conservation and development. It also notes veterans may get up to 4000 toward homes but only for land already under cultivation or with good prospects.
