Federal Reserve tightens credit to curb inflation
The Federal Reserve Board voted to raise reserve requirements on checking accounts, forcing banks to hold more cash and curb lending. The policy change, effective in two stages next month, marks a shift from easier money and targets to slow inflation and bolster the dollar abroad.
