Twenty seven die in Christmas traffic nationwide
Over the four day Christmas holiday 27 people died in traffic accidents with three triple fatal crashes dominating the toll. Six teenagers perished in two crashes and 17 victims were under 25. California led with 55 deaths. the national toll reached 592 as the period ended.

Erie Woman Remanded After Waterford Car Crash
Mary Pope, 56, was remanded to Erie County jail on $500 bond after a two car collision at Routes 19 and 97 Waterford. She faces drunken driving charges for crossing the centerline and hitting a northbound vehicle driven by Ann Appleby. Damages were about $1,000 with no injuries. In a second holiday crash on Route 74 in Clymer three people were injured. David J. Meyer, 21, Hinsdale, was treated and released. John Volk of Columbus and Jeffery S. Goodyear of Olean were treated for minor injuries after Meyer failed to see a stop sign and skid through.
