Pennsylvania hit by huge storm cripples travel and tempers roads
State police report most main highways cleared though poor visibility and drifting snow up to six feet hamper travel in Pennsylvania. 12,000 men and hundreds of trucks and graders worked under emergency conditions as up to 24 inches of new snow fell in places. Corroborating icing and one lane openings persisted on Turnpike. Two minor crashes near Titusville and Columbus caused minor damage. Schools and many businesses closed or altered schedules for the holiday weekend.

General Telephone adds telephone bills could rise about a third, with basic local service for a one party residence jumping from 6.60 to 8.80 dollars monthly.
