The crash occurred during a year ending flight, and authorities released few details pending investigations.
Chinese Communists announced they submitted a formal written truce proposal to the government seeking a conditional ceasefire on all fronts. The two-hour meeting with government representatives at Chungking discussed delivering the plan to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek for consideration and arranging a January session of China’s political consultative council to end the civil war.

In Pineville Kentucky on December 27 rescue workers reported 13 fires along a tunnel as they pressed toward 30 to 50 miners entombed by a blast at the Kentucky Straight Creek Coal Company mine. Most trapped men were believed dead. some flames were 4100 feet in, with air tilling dangerous gas fumes and debris hindering progress.
Washington December 27 The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized railroads to postpone indefinitely the class rate adjustments from the commission's freight rate decision. The action follows a Federal court injunction restraining enforcement of a 10 percent decrease in class rates in northern and eastern states and a corresponding decrease in the south and west. The information was granted last Friday by a three judge Federal court at Willas New York at the request of the northern states. The Commission's order had been scheduled to go into effect January 1.
Harrisburg reports revenue receipts for the period well above projections with totals around 48.2 million for a six month span and an overall treasury surplus near 170 million. Yet the budget office notes uncertainty on whether current estimates will be revised downward or upward as taxes due later in spring approach.

Pittsburgh news reports seek the identity of a truck driver burned beyond recognition after a head on collision of two trailers on the Lincoln Highway near Westinghouse Bridge. The other driver, Merl Bennett of Bedford, R D 2, survived with injuries at Braddock General Hospital.
New York reports show milk production in December at its lowest since 1990 while the same month sees a new high in uniform price. Br Blanford predicts the December price around 3461 per hundredweight as a provisional forecast. The USDA says November production totals will lift the year’s total, with Deremoee harvesting about 45 million pounds versus 390.7 million a year ago.
In Yokohama on December 27 the first war crimes trial in Japan handed down a life sentence to Tsutsiya for torture and killing of POW Robert Gordon Teas of Streator Illinois. The judge noted gratitude for America from the defense staff. The panel also announced more proceedings against Lt. Lt. Pun and other guards for bayoneting and beating prisoners.

A German girl described hearing shots, seeing nine armed men in dark coats, and one of the victims later identified by friends as missing.

The United States Soviet Union and Britain announce a three power agreement on the atomic question and a four power approach for Japan. Byrnes says talks yielded better relations among the three powers and anticipated withdrawal and influence in Asia. Details remain to be released in Moscow Washington and London.
