In Cumming Georgia seven members of the Rodgers and Brown families perish when their station wagon plunges from a guard rail into Lake Lanier after leaving a stove top fire and heading to an orchard for apples. John E Brown, 24, drove the vehicle with Billy Rodgers 20 and others aboard. Mrs Rodgers 21 recalls her daughter Amanda Lee age 3 died in the incident.

Douglasville, GA. James L. Purcell, 56, is charged with murdering his estranged wife in Ocala, Florida, after she left him a grisly Christmas gift in the form of her dog skeleton. Police say she was found shot in the chest at her Magnolia Haven home. Purcell had previously killed the couple’s dog months earlier and was returned to Florida to face grand jury action.
Two minor crashes Thursday caused only slight damage and led to an arrest for failure to stop at the scene. Daniel R. Eshelman, 19, claimed the other driver backed into him. one tail light broke. At 4:45 p.m. James R. Nelson reported a sideswipe on East Main. Francis J. Delury, 39, was charged after a witness valued the other vehicle, which Delury denied knowing.
