Washington dispatch reports the Pan American conference drafting a protocol to settle the Holiyian Paraguayan boundary clash. Boligia and Paraguay gave favorable replies to settlement questions. Delegates hope to announce a peace finding on New Year’s Day.
The city marked Christmas with church services and pageants across denominations. Midnight Masses at St Pauls and St Elizabeths Catholic churches featured choirs and special music, while Bishop Ward led the Emmanuel Church service. Families paused business as communities celebrated together.
Corry resident Charles Kromas reports on his European trip noting Germany leads in jet technique development while England and other nations lag. He and Mrs Kromas, back from a seven week tour touching eleven countries, plan to reopen the Bluebird restaurant on North Center Street this week after two decades abroad.
An Akron hotel fire killed six and injured seven after a rubbish pile is blamed for spontaneous combustion. Fire officials say smoke filled corridors and guests on the first and second floors fled to the street while others were overcome attempting to escape. Names of victims include Arthur Alexander, Charles King, W. W. Wilson, Clare Burrell, and Lucian Curtis. An official investigation was to be conducted by Fire Chief John Metz and the state fire marshal.
City treasurer Franke B. Westley prepared a detailed paper on how taxes are fixed levied and collected. Harry Auer read the paper at the Rotary Club lunch, highlighting practical tax collection insights for members. The meeting drew guests including Byron Babbitt of St. Louis and Gladya Button visiting from Senay.
In fog bound conditions a Stowe township fire truck veered off a 60 foot embankment while rushing to a $500,000 blaze at Carnegie Refining Co. near Heidelberg. Firemen Adolph Bennett 40 and Joseph De Terra 44 of Stowe township died. eight others injured. fifteen firefighters were hurt overall as explosions and flames raged for hours before containment.
Fred Thomson noted star of western films died in Hollywood California after gallstone surgery last week. The death comes two weeks after another film great Theodore Roberts. Thomson, famous for riding his horse Player King, helped pioneer frontier cinema alongside Tom Mix and William S Hart. Born in Pasadena in 1901, he was a multi sport athlete at Occidental College and Princeton University.
City officials urge motorists to avoid West Pleasant Street this evening as youngsters take over for coasting. Mayor Bracken announced patrol arrangements by the Bay Sprouts, with drivers asked to use alternate routes to protect children at play.
President Coolidge and Mrs Coolidge arrived in Brunswick and will travel by motor to Sapelo Island for a week with Howard E. Coffin of Hudson Motor Company. A welcome reception preceded their departure by motorboats. The couple plan to enjoy the island’s outdoor sports, with portraits planned by artist Frank O Salisbury.
P. M. Nichols will have a hearing before Police Magistrate C B Porter at 7:30 Thursday evening on a charge of disorderly conduct following an arrest early Tuesday morning by Patrolman Flannigan. Nichols contends the arrest was groundless and plans to vigorously oppose the charges, admitting he was singing in a local restaurant but denying any disorderly or drunken conduct. witnesses are said to support the officer’s claims.
Washington dispatch reports a Pennsylvania Railroad electric express collided with a crossing watchman near Malaga at night, killing two men and injuring others. Witnesses say the crossing lantern signal failed as the train sped through, prompting calls for farm relief actions in Congress before Christmas.

Claude Parker, 18, of Union City, is hospitalized in Corry after being wounded by a gun he had stooped to pick up. The condition is serious but expected to improve. details remain scarce as authorities investigate the incident. In Canton, Walter Heldman faces murder charges over the death of his wife, the Phantom Gun Woman, who had admitted killing Vernard Fearn.
Five persons from Little Lameque N B drowned when their automobile broke through ice while crossing from Little Lameque to the Stippegan main. The deceased are Joseph S Nesl merchant Mrs Noel his wife Andrew Dugusy Mrs Noel's father Thomas Jones fish merchant and Joseph Chiasson all of Little Lameque. Deputy Marshal J F Austin returned to his word in Pittsburgh this morning after spending the weekend in the city.
The Hollywood party at Lottie Pickford’s home became a talking point as a late night scene unfolded. Neighbors report a noisy, staged fight between Jack Daugherty and Daniel Jaeger over actress Mary Pickford’s sister with Jaeger needing a doctor for a cut tendon.
Coast Guard, tugs, and cutters aided distressed vessels off Alaska and Oregon. The steamer Florente Luckenback grounded on Clatsop Spit and floated at 9:30 a.m. Two tugs stood by as the Roosevelt towing operations faced harsh seas. Twenty three men aboard the grounded vessel remained unconfirmed safe. Roosevelt’s crew was rescued. Northwest Coast and Alaska Coast Guard units responded with Unalaska dispatched from Juneau.
The City Council will hold a Friday night special session to approve month end bills and address other year end business.
