In Saltville Virginia on December 20 thir teen bodies were recovered with many still missing after the Holston River valley flooded when the Mathieson Alkali Works dam failed. Nineteen injured were treated at an emergency hospital as fifteen homes in Parmartown were swept away by the mud and floodwaters.
Largely attended Christmas observances marked the holiday in Corry area churches. Emmanuel Episcopal led 11:30 p.m. services Wednesday with a choral program. St Peters Waterford and St Elizabeth's St Thomas Catholic churches held midnight masses. St Paul's Lutheran prayed Christmas morning at 11. Fred Laird, a lineman for Venango Public Service Corporation, was seriously injured last evening when he slipped from a pole at the South Center and South Street intersection while replacing a fuse in a transformer. He suffered back muscle strains and ligament damage to his left knee and right ankle, was rushed to Mercy Hospital, and is expected to recover quickly. Laird has survived several close calls in his line of work, and friends hope for his full recovery.
No new developments today in the case of Buster Kenna former Corry resident held at Elmira on murder charge. Interest centers among acquaintances of his father Corry sega in the case outcome. Kenna, brought to Corry as mascot of Company A after the Spanish American War, remembered by residents. Reports say he murdered a Negro named Hughes in New York City earlier in the week. A strong case is said to be built against the former Corry resident now jailed in Elmira. Curtis M Smock of Meadville involved with a $141 incident in Brie Christmas.
Indianapolis December 26 Mrs Kenneth Clark 18 spoke bravely of a 12 mile ride on the cow catcher of a speeding Knickerbocker special of the Big Four line after a crash that injured three in her car and left her with exposure to extreme cold. Her husband and parents were hurt too but she escaped serious injury.
An apparent homicide and accidental blast link Randolph Slayer to a nitrate explosive found at the scene in Tamertown. Victims include Dorothy and a mother in law. deputies Griggle and Bragg oversee the investigation as Drs Gruwe Ander son and Toby assist at the venue. The body of Poser Mebarey is found amid a pistol confrontation that risked many lives.
City commission will meet in the Municipal Building next Monday evening to clear old bills and prepare annual appropriations for 1924. The session will also stage first readings of an ordinance setting new levy and making city appropriations. Other year end matters will be discussed.

The driver Henry Wald swerved to avoid another vehicle as it turned off Center Street.
Cursory exam of Billy McClintock, the millionaire orphan, finds no sealed evidence of violence. Coroner’s chemist McNally says vital organs are under analysis to determine cause. State's attorney Crowe plans to interview foster father William Shepherd as investigators probe a will, guardianship issues, and a suspected arson at a Conneautville farm house.
Chicago reports four deaths linked to the severe cold as furnaces overheated in a fire at a hotel and other blazes from heating problems. The Weather Bureau predicted relief as the cold spell began to ease.
The powder house at the Underwood mine of the Pennsylvania Coal Co in Throop Pa was blown up this morning. Strike sympathizers are suspected while the mine’s employees have been on strike three weeks. No injuries or damage reported.
