The Communist New China Daily News urges General Marshall to set a time limit on Japanese disarmament in China and the withdrawal of Allied forces. The Vatican announced the creation of thirty two new cardinals by Pope Pius X. Four from the United States and six from Latin America join the College of Cardinals, to be inducted February 18 in Rome. The United States will have five members including Archbishops Spellman Glennon Striten Moonan and Dougherty. The college will number ten US cardinals with Dougherty already serving.

The treasurer’s report shows 788 Corry area residents received unemployment compensation totaling $14,112, with Meadville and Warren totals $28,088 and $4,7 respectively. In Cumberland Pennsylvania two inmates escaped from an Army barracks on Saturday were recaptured in Harrisburg within hours. The men identified are McKinley Lassister aged 23 and Burnett aged 27 from near Philadelphia. They were at work when captured and are undergoing disciplinary action.
