Kane Firms Targeted in Lake Advertising Scheme by Solicitator
A Warren and Kane area police sweep halted a Lake Advertising scheme that defrauded a dozen Kane firms. Edward S Mazar of South Bend Indiana, 84, was arrested on disorderly conduct and issued warrants for obtaining money and goods by false pretenses. He posed as a railroad journal salesman and used a local veteran railroader to approach firms, taking about five dollars per firm for an ad in a non existent Railway Employee's Annual Time Recording Book. He operated in Kane and Warren before his arrest and transfer.
