State Police investigated two area auto accidents yesterday and today. Walter Foltz 31 of Centerville drove from a service station onto Route 8 into Ruby Syzmanek 50 of Buffalo NY with no injuries and $700 damage. James Wolfe 41 of Erle attempted to pass two trucks near Wattsport and rammed a timing aid driven by Robert Carnlewsk 22 of Brie with no injuries and about $50 damage.
A youth who earned $30 from after school work for Christmas gifts had packages stolen after he set them on a stool beside him while eating. Police chief urges the finder to return the parcels to the city station to ensure the boy gets his presents.
In Jamestown a 24 year old man, Thomas Traver, was sentenced to one year in Monroe County Penitentiary after pleading guilty to assaulting his stepson with a toy dog on September 16. Judge Rollin A. Fancher cited the violent temper and prior record but gave credit for time served. The incident left the boy with injuries requiring hospital treatment.

Washington AP The House subcommittee on Legislative Oversight harshly criticizes the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Interstate Commerce Commission in a secret report sampling lax license renewals and favored treatment for a New York truck carrier. The panel goes out of business Jan. 3 and will release the findings publicly today.
A widespread blizzard driven by strong winds and extreme cold swept from the eastern Rockies into the Northeast. The storm caused nine deaths including five in Ohio, three in Illinois, and one in Missouri and produced heavy snow, plunging temperatures below zero in multiple states.
Miczek, a 72 year old from Corry area high school, left a St. Louis hotel room where he was staying with his mother Mrs. William Borsa. Federal authorities say he has not yet violated parole and may face warrants for bad checks and fraudulent conversion. Police report he told his mother he would return, but he disappeared prompting a manhunt and parole supervision concerns.
Richard Baer, 49, already under an assumed alias, was captured near Hamburg and transported to Frankfurt to face charges for alleged mass murder at Auschwitz. He protested his arrest calling himself an officer and demanding proper treatment.
