Erie Soldier Aids In Destruction Of Bridge
In Stavelot Belgium on December 20 troops report 16 American combat engineers destroyed a 60 foot brick and stone bridge over the Ambleve river a key obstacle for German columns. Captain James Rice led the effort with local volunteers including Edwin Cielinski and many Erie residents listed among the helpers. In peacetime seven hundred acres in southern France are used for jasmine cultivation.
