Winter storm paralyzes city as blizzard hits

A severe winter storm sweeps the city with five to six inches of snow, drifts up to a foot, and near zero temperatures. Heavy whiteout hinders driving, traffic stalls, and morning streets remain snowbound before gradual warming and a forecasted rise on Saturday.

London gas mains blasts injure seventeen and threaten more

Explosions ripped through central London wrecking gas mains and shaking buildings. Seventeen people were injured, seven gas victims initially, as tanks beneath the streets burst and fires spread. Firefighters worked amid flames and smoke watching for further blasts.

Corry Couple Seek 15000 Damage Suit in Erie Court

Raymond and Lua Smith of Corry Pa filed a 15000 damage suit Thursday in Erie County Court against H W Jones of Erie alleging permanent injuries from a motor vehicle crash on Oct 16 1926 about a mile west of North Hast Pa Smiths claim Lua suffered extensive injuries including broken teeth and cuts while Raymond seeks 5000 for medical and other expenses and lost services. Attorney Francis McClintock of Union City represents the Smiths.

Funeral Services for Mrs Mary Rothwell

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Rothwell were held at 10:30 this morning at Alexander and Company's Funeral Parlors North Center Street. Rev AL Roth of the Baptist church conducted the rites attended by relatives and friends. The body was later taken to Cambridge Springs for burial in the Rockwell Cemetery with friends awaiting.

A Parachute jump ended fatally for Leo J. McGinn of Illinois when his chute failed to open during a flight in a blizzard. The crash caused his plane to collide with high tension wires and flames, ending his life after he and his crew attempted to escape.
