Western Pa Cold Snap Brings Snow and Dangerous Roads

Release of auto crash victim Miss Donnasyuizman

Miss Donnasyuizman 19, of Corry R D 3, released from Corry Memorial Hospital after injuries from a two car crash at West Main Street and First Avenue. Police report she was westbound on Main when her car entered the intersection and struck the southbound vehicle driven by Niels P. Sorenson 66 of Corry BD 4. Damage estimated at 800.

Corry Sliding Area Opens December 26th

The Corry Chamber of Commerce Recreation Committee set a date for supervised sliding at the Corry sliding area at East Pleasant and Summer streets. Sliding will run 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. when school is in session and 3:30 to 5 o'clock on school days. This is one of several winter sports sponsored by the chamber, alongside Teen Frolics, intramural basketball, city league volleyball, Ladies' Recreational Club, and elementary basketball at the Wright School.

Mercury Takes Frigid Plunge In Corry Streets

Frigid temperatures dropped from a high of 43 to 2 degrees above zero in Corry yesterday as slushy streets turned to ice. City salt spreaders and state highway trucks salted main roads and intersections to curb slickness with no reported accidents. Police hunted today for the slayer of polio victim George B. Smyth 58 found shot to death on his back porch near Bergholy. He was brutally beaten and robbed before the shotgun blast killed him. The money Smyth usually carried and his crutches were missing.

Potomac River Oyster Wars May End Today

Maryland and Virginia may settle their long running Potomac oyster wars at Mt Vernon site chosen for the agreement. A joint agency could manage the river’s resources while oysters are to be harvested by hand tong. Previous clashes included armed patrols and gunfire with casualties reported over the decades.

Corry Infant Dies After Three-Car Erie Crash

A four month old Corry boy died at Hamot Hospital Erie yesterday from head injuries after a three car wreck south of Erie on Monday. Jeffrey Lynn Smith son of Samuel and Beverly Smith was injured and his mother remains in hospital with hip and pelvic injuries along with facial cuts. Donald Whitehill Edward Smouse and Walter Good from Erie area were also injured. The family will hold services at Bracken Funeral Home with Rev Paul Bauer officiating.

Arrest Of City Man Ends Bad Check Spree

Charles Martin, 94, of Warren County, arrested after cashing phony checks at a bank, linked to a spree across four counties. He pled guilty on non support, faces further charges in Venango Crawford Erie and Charlaans counties, and was returned to Erie County for additional action. Three Children Die in Fire at City Apartment

In a late night blaze at a four story building on the secord floor mother Beverly Dist on 18, playing with friends, could not reach three children Joanne Dick on, Teddy dist on, and Casey 1.
