Desertion report and local disturbances on West Whyne Street
A deserter from the United States regular army, William Gang, surrenders to Squire Vores after a visit with Dr. Mesd’s family on West Whyne Street. He claims three enlistments from Fort Slocum and Port Slocum, deserts in June 1919, and mentions a standing reward for capture. Constable McClint is summoned to take him in as villagers recall a spate of misfortune and a bridge club gathering nearby.
