Judge reverses Duff extradition order freeing Georgia prisoner
In Pittsburgh Judge Samuel A. Wells halted Governor Duff’s extradition of James Moreland alias Jacob Head, a 26 year old Black man who feared torture in Georgia. Moreland testified he was framed on burglary while working for a Georgia sheriff in a whisky still operation and had escaped from a Cairo camp hospital. The judge cited reports critical of Georgia prisoner treatment in ruling for release.
