Fatal plant accident kills Grand Valley machinist

Dennis B. Hebets, 24, a Grand Valley father of six and McInnes Steel Co. machinist, died instantly when a large impeller disc flew from a vertical boring lathe during a first cut. The disc struck him and he died from a fractured skull. Statements from plant officials noted Hebets’s meticulous chucking technique. The incident occurred about 10 p.m. at the McInnes plant in Grand Valley.

Burglars Break Through Wall at Murphy Co Store

Police reported burglars punched through a concrete block wall at the Murphy Co. store in Corry Plaza, stealing cigarette lighters and women's watches valued around 500 dollars. Officers found tracks in the snow, entered the building, and removed debris to avoid detection while two suitcases were left behind. investigators from the State Police were summoned to collect footprints and evidence.
