DA Seeks Allowance to Use Drugs From Car Evidence
Mayville Chautauqua County DA Robert J. Sullivan appeals a county court ruling that 194 pounds of marijuana found in a motorist’s car cannot be used as evidence. Samuel R. Galoob of Dallas was stopped on September 11 on the New York Thruway near Ripley for no car registration. Police seized the marijuana after a search of the trunk led to a felony drug case challenge. Judge Lee Towne Adams said the search lacked probable cause. The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled police may search after an arrest. Galoob remains free on $5,000 bail.

Loved Divorced Woman Dies in New Jersey
Ruth Thomas, 46, mother of six, died at Welkind Neurological Center in Chester NJ after a seven year battle with multiple sclerosis. Her husband, Howard Thomas, a St. Petersburg steelworker, had divorced her last year in a bid to regain Medicaid benefits he said she had lost after the Florida agency cut her $117 monthly aid for allegedly earning too much. The divorce aimed to restore medical coverage but failed and the couple had renewed their life together on Valentine’s Day before her death.
