Nursery Head Faces Cruelty Charge in Erie
Charles Gillette operator of the Gillette Day Nursery faces a cruelty charge in Erie county court. Howard and Mary Burns allege their eight year old daughter was struck with a ruler while under his care. Judge Elmer L. Evans will preside as one of two appeals from summary convictions.

Explosion and Fire Sweep Signal Hill Oil Field
Long Beach California December 17 an explosion in the Signal Hill oil field sparked a fire that burned two derricks and crude tanks. Six fire companies battled the blaze for about two hours and police said injuries were not reported. The cause was not determined though oil men suspected gas escape from a well.
