Space Center Houston AP reports astronauts Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford returned the Gemini 6 craft to a blazing reentry and expert Atlantic Ocean landing near the aircraft carrier Wasp. Schirra narrowly missed a visual sighting by sailors, tracked by recovery planes.

City seeks federal aid to cover airport paving bill
City officials, after a municipal meeting, hope the federal government will share about half of a $16,800 bill for Lawrence Airport runway paving. The overhaul raised costs from $96,000 to $129,000 with about $12,000 blamed on design errors by Yost Associates of DuBois. If federal help arrives, the city may avoid legal action against the engineers and reduce its equity portion, with about $6,000 from a bond issue and a remaining shortfall near $3,000. Driver Hurt In Two Car Crash On East Columbus
One driver was hospitalized with a severe scalp laceration after a two car collision in the 500 block of East Columbus last evening. Thomas R. Faris, 40, of 227 Northwest Street, listed in satisfactory condition at Corry Memorial Hospital, was westbound when Alta M. Walker, 35, of 539 East Columbus Avenue, backed from a driveway into his path. Walker reported she looked both ways but saw nothing and continued into the street. Damage totaled the Faris car with heavy damage to the front end. Walker’s car sustained 350 dollars of left front area damage.

Corry student to tour Europe with music group
Mary Grace Bennett of Corry Area High School has been named to a national Young Musicians tour. She will depart New York City on June 27 bound for Amsterdam to rehearse and perform in concerts across Holland Belgium Luxembourg France Germany Switzerland Italy Spain before a final New York concert. The tour is organized by the People to People program in Washington DC to showcase American youth. Bennett is the third CAHS student to join these programs following John Bliley and John Tate who previously performed with the School Band of America and the orchestra in prior tours.
