Erie County weighs recreation needs and potential county commission
Erie County Planning Commission and the new board of county commissioners will discuss countywide recreation needs in January. A county recreation commission was proposed in the 1961 master plan but not yet created. The 1963 budget funded park and fair maintenance, with maintenance costs totaling 4050 and 4500 allocated for parks and fairs. only three percent of the 912 square miles is currently used for public recreation.
