Defends Use Of Cafeterias In Erie School District
Erie school board secretary Arthur P. Logan defended operating nine district cafeterias at a deficit of 3,770.30 through October. He said cafeterias are for student convenience and not for profit, noting 280,542 servings so far this year. The board approved paying the month’s expenditures of 110,808.23 plus 305,049 in capital outlay, and referred five lamp bids to officials for review. The building committee will meet Erie County Crippled Children’s Society about a clinic addition to Harding school.

Wall Street And Commodity Markets Edge Higher In Mixed Trading
The Associated Press reports a higher market with gains led by industrials and chemicals amid uneven trading. Major stocks such as American Can and Bethlehem Steel show strength while other blue chips move mixedly. copper and cement prices edge up as oil and fuel shares drift. Oil, steel, and utility issues push the broader market, with railroad and construction plays in the mix and a cautious tone prevailing for the session. The egg market in New York shows dull to steady wholesale prices with varied lots for whites and yolks, reflecting steady demand and careful receipts.
