Storm Leaves Erie Peninsula Isolated by Breakwater Damage
In Erie on December 16 a Coast Guard officer said the storm left the peninsula "an island" after heavy waves battered the breakwater near No 2 beach. The force created a four to five foot water channel, washed out highway sections, and split the area from the bay. The damaged roadway had been briefly repaired for one way use for Coast Guard and Peninsula personnel. Waves undermined the site again, but the breakwater held as waves lessened by Saturday.

Erie finance director Sherman Hickey Jr asserts unequal city assessments have inflated taxes, noting 1935 increases on 1,700 homes by 450000 while 572 commercial properties shed 480000. He says lack of uniformity implies double taxation as next tax hike approaches and plans to present full findings by January 16 to Mayor Barber and the city council.
