Conferees Fight Over Hoover Relief Bill Details
Washington December 16 Conferees on the Hoover relief bill locked horns over funding and control. House members rejected Sen Robinsons amendment, resisting limits on presidential authority to direct future appropriations. Democratic leaders pressed for a $60 million measure while considering alternatives up to $45 million or $20 million more than Hoovers request. A provision by Cousens would require project workers to be residents of the project locality. The ongoing disputes mean the bill must return to conference for final adjustment if all sides do not yield.
