VFW Post Burns Mortgage At Gala in Erie

Members of Lieut Archie W Thompson Post No 264 VFW Erie celebrated burning the mortgage on their West Washington home with a supper program and dance. The 1927 purchase from M Noron marked relief from indebtedness as local civic leaders and visiting posts joined in the revival of songs prayers and speeches led by Chester W Zerbe junior vice commander. The gathering featured piano dancing and readings with past commanders and auxiliary officers in attendance.

Kidnaper of Trooper Captured After Gun Battle

Federal agents led by J Eagar Hoover captured Harry Brunette, alleged trooper kidnapper, after a turret of gunfire and tear gas in his New York City apartment on Riverside Drive. Arlene Lake, held with Brunette, was wounded and taken to Bellevue Hospital. Trooper William A Turnbull had been kidnapped in New Jersey.

Plane carrying seven missing in far west

Western Air Express reported a plane missing between Salt Lake City and Milford Utah. The craft carried four passengers and a crew of three. On board was Gladys Witt an air hostess who recently made front page headlines over a marriage decision.

Brooks Named Member of Liquor Board in Harrisburg

Gov. George H. Buretas appointed J. T. Brooks Augerearby to the State Liquor Board as member and secretary effective January 1. The board includes six others. pay is ten thousand dollars yearly. Rev Guilfoyle Installed as Altoona Bishop in Cathedral Rite

The Most Rev Richard Thomas Guilfoyle was formally installed as bishop of the Altoona diocese succeeding the late Bishop McCort. Cardinal Dougherty and other dignitaries attends the ceremony at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Born in 1879, Guilfoyle was ordained in 1917 and has held roles including assistant pastor and chancellor before his appointment by Pope Pius XI.
