Mad Bomber About Ready For Freedom
After 17 years in mental institutions George Metesky, the Mad Bomber, is near release. Charges tied to bombings including Radio City Music Hall were dismissed as he is deemed sane and set for discharge from a Queens state hospital. He plans to return to Waterbury, Connecticut, where his sister lives, and had planted 32 bombs over 17 years with 22 injuries but no deaths. The court noted his time in custody meets the two thirds of his maximum sentence.
