The FCC sanctioned subscription television while barring live sports and first run movies on conventional TV for two years. Leaders including Zenith’s Joseph Wright and Senator Murphy praised the decision, citing public and industry benefits, while Rep. Harvey warned of congressional overreach. The plan limits CATV retransmission in top markets to 35 miles from origin with consent, and bans common ownership of CATV and a local TV station in the same market.
