Carpenters Scale Raised Friction Bares Local Rift

A clash between Corry city contractors and the Corry Carpenters Union emerged as union carpenters union members sought pay increases from 82 4 2 to 40 cents an hour. Contractors warned of shop shutdowns while unions claimed contractors skimmed 50 to 75 cents per worker daily. Union leaders vowed to maintain forty cents an hour.

Local dealers display current retail prices for butter at 8 to 3m cents per pound, eggs 40 cents, potatoes around 60 cents a bushel, 15 cents per peck, and cabbage inexpensive. A neighborhood pursuit traced a man through East Fond and West Wayne streets after a break in at Charles Kromas home. Residents followed lantern light from house to house along Bond Street to Trying Street then Center, but stopped short of entering any dwellings.
