ERIE The president of the county employes' union filed a grievance against County Treasurer Neil McLaughlin for hiring two new office workers including his wife without posting vacancies. Dolores Bross said the action violated the contract and will protest to the county chief labor adviser before arbitration if needed. Lt. Guy Lester Maddox reports being forced into a guard rail by a Montreal bound tractor trailer driven by Roland Vachon. Maddox and his wife suffered injuries. Vachon faced charges, posted bond, and returned toward Canada. Police say Maddox blocked the truck until authorities arrived. The incident disrupted the downtown expressway as Maddox pursued the vehicle after initial contact.
