White Face Superiority Myth Endures Since Fifteenth Century
Fragmentary ad copy appears to attack or parody claims of racial superiority linked to the term white face. The readable text suggests a dated promotional or satirical note, mentioning used car dealers and a classified style call to sell cars through an ad. The piece mixes critical language with possible commercial context.
Market Gossip: Roosevelt on private railroads under IC control
New York December 11 United Press financial editor Elmer C Walzer reports that President Roosevelt endorses private ownership and operation of railroads under the Interstate Commerce Commission. A 15 percent freight-rate request would raise over 500 million annually, with hearings ongoing. If approved, railroads would buy new equipment and repair needs, boosting steel and other costs and affecting employment and markets. Industrial activity shows declines in steel capacity and auto production, while some retailers and bank debits fluctuate.
