Reports say French and British forces steadily advance while German attacks at Ypres are repelled. The war front shows gains along a 250 mile anti-argonne line, with heavy artillery duels near Arras and Varnes and French control near Le Piastre region.

General Maytorena orders halt to Naco attack action

General Maytorena, leading the Vilista forces at Naco, was ordered by provisional President Gutierrez in Mexico City to stop firing unless shots still threaten American citizens. The move followed a request from the State Department as casualties among Americans occurred.

Fire destroys city building at 449 West 124th Street

United Press reports four killed and many saved by firefighters after a blaze at 449 West 124th Street. An early explosion wounded several firemen and residents as crews searched the ruins for occupants. A young girl, eleven, died from injuries hours later.

Insurance Adjusters Inspect Cameron Building Losses

Insurance adjusters from Crawford Mutual and other firms arrived to assess stock and building damage after yesterday morning’s fire at the Cameron building. Jacobson store contractors and waterproofing crews moved to protect stock while clothing firms and expert adjusters prepared to handle the larger loss. Dr. Smith’s offices on the second floor are being relocated, and estimates for rebuilding are underway with Mount and Son Architects and Iyenn Alliance involved.

Local readers of Ladies Home Journal note a four page Handcraft feature by Mary Hopkins, a former Corry girl and Curtis publication artist. Hopkins, daughter of Mrs Etto Hopkins and Mrs Charlotte Amdonno, studied in Philadelphia, now works in the city and has earned wide needlework recognition. She graduated from Corry High School in 1890 and is well remembered by alumni.

Diamond merchant robbed in staged theft plot in Pittsburgh

Irwin Pennsylvania December 14 state constabulary and Pittsburgh detectives search for two suspects who robbed S B Bramer, a diamond dealer, of ten thousand six hundred dollars in gems. Authorities believe the crime was a planned plot using a forged call from the Brick Home. A clerk reported Bramer left Pittsburgh with a leather case holding the gems and twenty dollars was found after the raid.

Kanashi Wisconsin December 11 Theron raided the home of Harry Jefferies wealthy automobile manufacturer and, while the family ate dinner, escaped with jewels valued at more than 15000 including a necklace of diamonds purchased abroad. Modiville December 13 Phengen dlarinn attempted arson on the frame depot of the Besse mer railway, steamers beneath the siding, train crawled and fire was extinguished.

Great Fire Destroys Washery, 2000 Left Idle

United Press dispatch from Pittsburgh reports a major fire that destroyed the B. W. Hing Company washeries, starting at two o clock and worsening overnight. About 2000 workers were thrown out of employment as flames and smoke swept the yards, with total losses estimated over 500000 dollars. A. Loveland traveled to Spring Creek to visit the tannery, amid ongoing relief efforts.

Another Death From Diphtheria In Fourth Ward

Mrs. V. A Nollinger died at home on Second Avenue after a brief relapse from diphtheria. She was thirty nine, survived by her husband, and had cared for Lynn Knepp’s son who died of pneumonia. Several diphtheria fatalities occurred in the Fourth ward neighborhood. Funeral at four this afternoon with private interment in Pine Grove.
