City Council approved on first reading a 9.0 pay increase plan for next year, giving raises to all non elected staff while elected officials would gain only about 25 to 36 cents per hour. Mayor and council salaries are $1,000 and $600 annually respectively.
Pittsburgh AP report states the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church youth project to raise funds for needy children by delivering Christmas cards with a nickel donation was ruled illegal by Postmaster Edward Coll under private express statutes. Church leaders voiced disbelief and considered court action, but will abandon the plan and seek alternate means for aiding children.
