Pennies Not To Change In Retirement Fund Plans

Harrisburg officials say planned changes to the 10 000 to 15 000 state personnel after Governor elect Arthur H James takes office will not endanger the retirement fund. The fund, with a 4 percent guaranteed return, held about 41 18 773 in cash and 20 million in investments on December 1. The fund board expects new appointees to offset increased reimbursements from dismissed employees, keeping the balance above normal without heavy liquidation. About 27 000 contributors remain in the fund. Those leaving after under 10 years receive money back with interest. The 1935 shake-up under Governor Earle caused disbursements to rise from about 50 000 monthly to 180 000 in a single week.
