From Catania Sicily on December 6 Associated Press reports Mount Etna's lava flow forced villagers of Renazzo and Miloro to flee. Fire crews assisted evacuation as the lava crept through chestnut groves toward Renato. The eruption, active since November 25, sent ash and smoke miles into the sky.

The Public Utility Commission authorized discontinuing two Sunday trains on the Conemaugh Division between Pittsburgh and Oil City and two more Monday through Saturday trains on the West Mile line between Red Banks Clarion County and Oil City. The commission noted minimal Sunday use for trains 006 and 907 and for 901 and 504 on other days. Objections came from Oil City Franklin and Clarion boroughs.
