County Employees to Get Increase in 1949 Budget
About 200 county employees would gain a $25 monthly salary raise in 1949, officials said as they prepared department budget requests. Controller Harvey M. Willis estimated the total annual rise at $60,000 within a county budget of 7 mill from tax collections. Some court house workers viewed a $35 figure as unlikely, with considerations including possible action at Attica prison. The article notes a court of appeals decision this year and a pending new trial for Buffalo defendant Leo J. Hagerty, with a defense motion seeking trial relocation due to adverse publicity.
