An advertising executive and the head of an airplane charter sales firm died when a Beechcraft crashed in a Palma suburb backyard. The wreckage damaged two houses, two cars, and a garage. Civil Aeronautics Board ordered an investigation into the seven mile east of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. John J. Duffy Jr., 35, president of the ad agency, and Clay J. A two car collision on the Columbus-Lottsville road Saturday evening left both drivers uninjured. John Heminger, 41, westbound on Route 957, crossed the center line and sideswiped Peter Wolfe, 18, of Jamestown. Damages totaled 150 dollars to Heminger’s car and 300 dollars to Wolfe’s.

Reports tied Archbishop Perez Serantes to detentions and exile, while bishops denied any state indoctrination program or bribe links. Meanwhile a fatal apartment fire in the North Side killed 70 year old Michael L Noonan and sent seven residents to safety as investigators pursue a cause.
A 72 foot Scout rocket and the Ji Matable satellite failed minutes after launch off Wallops Island Virginia. The second stage failed to ignite and the craft plunged into the sea. The $750000 vehicle was unrecoverable and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration will study radio telemetry and camera data to determine the cause. No date for a follow up was set.
President elect John F Kennedy maps a defense and Pentagon revamp while signaling Arizonan Stewart Udall as top pick for secretary of the interior. Udall, 40, would join a growing cabinet plan announced during a New York stop with Udall on hand for the official announcement. Mead Park celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Saturday night event honoring its development. The program recalled the park’s origins from Collins Woods through early donors and leaders, with remarks by officials and a commemorative brochure featuring photos and a park map.
Miss DeForest 80, a longtime Warren teacher, died from severe burns after a gas fire and stove explosion in her bedroom yesterday afternoon. Firemen found her body amid smoke. she was rushed to the hospital where doctors listed fatal injuries. Coroner to issue accidental death certificate. Sister Ethel DaForest, also a former Warren teacher, assisted and had entered the room during the blaze.
The United States Britain and the Soviet Union agreed to a two month recess in their marathon negotiations for a nuclear weapons testing ban postponing further talks until February 7. Charles Stelle Sir Michael Wright and Semyon Tsarapkin announced the pause as they redeal the talks.
A 23 year old man from West Vicgenn was arrested after allegedly smashing a pane and causing a disturbance at West Place Street. He was detained by officers following a complaint by Mary Strest about duress and disruption.
A 246 foot freighter, Morazal, ran aground off Grand Traverse Bay in a storm. The Mackinaw crewed by Coast Guard personnel and three immigration agents pulled 17 crew members and the Greek captain’s wife to safety. Immigration official T. B. Martinez said six crew could face deportation.
Three men died in a head on collision on Route 1 near Trent Suridy Creek Oswego County. The deceased were Mary R Horton 28 Gouverneur James L Whalen 47 Gouverneur and Gerald H Frick 45 Ogdensburg. Albertus Bray 41 North Syracuse the driver survived and was hospitalized in Watertown. Bray worked for Barnett Hewitt Tire Co. in Byracine.
Palm Beach Florida AP reports William J Butt secretary of labor and industry is named as one of eleven members by President elect Kennedy to a committee to plan a federal aid program for chronic unemployment. The group aims to start work immediately with a draft plan to Congress after January 20 and focuses on promoting growth and new jobs in Pennsylvania and West Virginia regions.
Four sisters ages 7 to 18 died in a fire in an upstairs bedroom of their home. State Police say a blaze may have been started by three brothers who were playing with matches. A neighbor and the girls’ mother, Janine Sembolt, 37, received treatment for shock and injuries.
