City Council OKs 14 mill 1940 tax rate and meters debate
City Council approved a 14 mill property tax for 1940 to cover indigent care and general services, rejecting a per capita levy of 17 dollars. The meeting also scrapped proposed parking meters after a committee report, with aldermen split on the issue and finance chief Fred J. Weeger withholding time on the report. The tax plan includes sinking fund allocations and expected delinquent receipts, with a hospital aid element under review.
