Fire rips Buckingham annex in St Louis killing four
Fire trapped guests in the Buckingham hotel annex in St Louis injuring nearly a score and leaving four missing. Most tenants were nurses at nearby hospitals as flames forced many to jump from fourth story windows before the annex roof collapsed. Loss about 100000 and the Buckingham owner was under receivership. A follow up on the seating of Senators Smith and Ware was postponed to next day to avoid embarrassment for the president.

California forest fire ravages 6000 acres near San Bernardino
A large uncontrolled fire in Southern California burned over 6000 acres in the St Bernardino region near Tyra and Tujinga canyons.
