THESE WOMEN By Adelaide Kerr Up Feature Service Writer
Mrs. August Belmont winner of the 1940 American Woman's Association Award for Eminent Achievement built two famous careers in the last 40 years. She moved from Broadway to philanthropy aiding the jobless, Red Cross, and Metropolitan Opera Guild. Her fund raising raised millions, including 9 million during unemployment relief. She founded the Metropolitan Guild to support the opera, now with 16 000 to 17 000 members and large annual subscriptions. She also serves on national boards and credits success to imagination conviction and enthusiasm. Her colleagues say she inspires others, makes people feel valued, and remains engaged with those she helps.
